dmarket

When you start a new session in Rust, one of the most important initial tasks is to collect all sorts of items and resources. While some players lurk around the map cluelessly, clever and experienced survivors know where the most important items are hidden. A Green Card in Rust is exactly the thing to find in the early stages, to open many advanced opportunities later in the game.

Your hunt for really good loot in Rust should start with a Green Keycard. On its own, the card is used to open specific doors inside various structures, called Monuments. The resources you can get with a Green Card are not too rare or valuable, but the key opens access to cards of the next tier.

Be properly prepared for your survival adventures thanks to this article on DMarket Blog. Check out everything you need to know about the Rust Green Keycards, where to find them, and how to use one to your advantage.

What is a Green Keycard in Rust?

Good loot in the survival game Rust is mainly hidden behind closed doors. You literally need keys to open them, and the Green Keycard is one of them. This is the only role of a Rust Green Card.

All sorts of cards can be found and used within Monuments. These are structures on the Rust map. Some of them are pretty dangerous due to hostile NPCs or the negative effects of radiation. Other Monuments are safer, but they still come with a risk of ambushes from other players.

Monuments have different tiers, depending on their difficulty and the rewards you get from them. It is logical to start from the simplest Rust Monuments, to add basic equipment into your inventory and prepare for infiltrating more rewarding structures.

Green Cards in Rust are tightly connected to these Monuments and their division into tiers. This type of keycard is the easiest to find, and it gives access to lowest-tier Monuments. You can’t expect to get the top Rust loot in those locations, but Green Keycards unlock the general chain of the in-game keys: for you to reach the best Monuments and solve their puzzles.

How to Get a Green Keycard in Rust

There are two main ways to obtain Rust Green Keycards.

  • You can battle scientists in specific locations. These NPCs drop Green Keycards.
  • You can find Green Cards in some rooms: They just lie on tables there.

How to get a Green Card in Rust totally depends on your personal preferences. Battling scientists is a decent activity in the game, as it’s not too difficult, and you obtain various resources from them. On the other hand, you need at least very basic equipment and weapons to not fall victim to the NPCs.

To get keycards from Monuments, you obviously need to know Rust Green Card locations. It’s not difficult at all, and you’ll find this info further in our guide. However, other players will want to do the same, which creates tension in this quest. You need to be quick, but you also need to be ready for potential PvP battles.

Green Cards from Rust Scientists

Here, you’ll find details on where to get a Green Card in Rust from scientists. Basically, you need to go to specific locations and defeat NPCs. They drop a variety of items; Green Keycards are among them. The drop rate depends on the type of scientists.

  • Roaming scientists (Road scientists) have a 23% Green Card drop rate, which is not the highest but still pretty decent. It’s the lowest tier of Rust NPCs. Roaming scientists have little health—115 HP—and their weapon is not too dangerous: the M92 pistol. You can meet these NPCs around the roads.

  • Military tunnel scientists have a 37% Rust Green Keycard drop rate. They are the best for obtaining a Green Card as loot, but they are more difficult to deal with than Roaming ones. Look for Military scientists in Military Tunnels. Their health level is 175 HP. They use M92 pistols and SPAS-12 shotguns. It is better to try and defeat Military scientists from a distance, as their shotgun is devastating to deal with at close range.

  • Outpost scientists: With a 17% Green Card drop chance, Outpost scientists are the most passive of them all. You can meet them in the safe zone of Outpost, and they will not attack you first. Their health level is high, though: 300 HP. And their weapon is dangerous: the MP5A4 submachine gun. Even by taking your gun to the Outpost, you become a target of Outpost scientists. It is really difficult to defeat them, especially alone.

  • Bandit Camp Guards also have a 17% drop chance for Green Keycards, and in general, these Rust NPCs are very similar to Outpost ones. They are guards of the safe zone at the Bandit Camp, so these scientists attack in response to your aggression. Their health level is slightly lower: 250 HP. Bandit Camp scientists have assault rifles as weapons.

You also can have an assault rifle in the game—and with an awesome skin, too. Such items are among the Rust best sellers on DMarket.

Green Keycard Locations (Monuments)

In a way, this method of getting a Green Card in Rust is more reliable. You go to a specific location, and you just take the key from a desk. Still, other players are eager to do the same. There is always the risk of facing an opponent in the Green Card Monuments. If you find the place looted already, come back a bit later, as the cards respawn every 30 minutes.

So, where to get a Green Card in Rust? The following Monuments have such keys.

green keycard rust locations
  • Abandoned Cabins—Break your way inside the cabin and head to the second floor to take a Green Keycard.
  • Abandoned Supermarket—Go to the back of the building and look for an office room. You can enter from outside.
  • Ferry Terminal—A Green Card is inside a small employee area.
  • Junkyard—There is an office room right on the bridge. A Rust Green Card is inside.
  • Lighthouse—A Green Card can be found in the base of the lighthouse, in the office room.
  • Oxum’s Gas Station—Break the wooden planks to enter the office. A Green Card is on the table.
  • Underwater Lab—As these lab modules are randomly generated after each Rust map wipe, there is no exact spot to find a Green Keycard. Head to it, and explore it thoroughly. A card should be on a desk or on the floor.

All the previous Rust Green Card locations have no obstacles to you entering and grabbing a keycard. The following ones are trickier, as you already need to have a key to get in the rooms.

  • Small Oil Rig—You need to use a Blue Keycard to obtain a Green one. The room is on the highest level. Dangerous scientists are lurking around, so defeat them first.
  • Large Oil Rig—A Green Card is needed to open the door here and obtain another Rust Green Keycard.
  • Power Plant—It has a puzzle to solve with an Electric Fuse and a Green Card. Another Green Keycard is waiting inside.

There are some very niche reasons for you to look for Green Keycards on the Oil Rigs, especially the small one. You already know how to get a Green Card in Rust without using other cards, so go for these methods.

The Power Plant is a source of nice loot, and you’ll get your Green Card replaced with a new one.

How to Use the Green Keycard

The first thing to understand about Green Cards in Rust is that you can use them only a few times.

  • Each time you use a Rust Green Keycard, it gets 25% damage. Four times for one key is the max.

Knowing that, you should plan your actions wisely.

Green Keycards are needed to open doors with green electronic locks. Some low and mid-level loot can be found there. The main purpose of using Green Cards is to obtain keys of a high level: Blue Cards.

We have a dedicated guide on Blue Keycards in Rust. Please, check it out for more details.

In a nutshell, Green Keycards open doors in the following Rust Monuments:

  • Harbor
  • Satellite Dish
  • Sewer Branch

In addition to a Green Card, you need to use an Electric Fuse to solve Green door puzzles in Rust. Look for a broken power box, fix it with an Electric Fuse, head to the door, and open it with your keycard.

Tips and Strategies

Scientists can be deadly, especially if you are not prepared for battle. PvP clashes can happen anywhere, and some Rust players intentionally camp around the Green Keycard locations to have easy victims.

  • Looting Roaming scientist is easy when you already have a decent weapon. Go for them to get a nice variety of loot, including Green Cards.
  • Before rushing into any Monument, spend some time watching the place from a safe distance. Note any activity.
  • Be especially careful around the rooms with Green Keycards. Pay attention to the spots where someone can hide. Think where you would camp, and then check those places.
  • Rust with friends is better! If you have a teammate, go for the cards together. One can watch the surroundings and participate in battle if it occurs.
  • Abandoned Supermarket is one of the easiest locations to find a Green Keycard in Rust. Underwater Lab is the most difficult, but it has other valuable items.

In the hierarchy of keycards in Rust, green ones have the lowest tier. They are needed to open doors with green locks and obtain Blue Cards, which lead to Red Cards, and then to the most valuable loot in the game. With Green Cards, you also can get access to loot, but of the low and mid-level—for example, inside the Power Plant monument.

Green Keycards in Rust have a limited lifespan—you can use one only four times. It is relatively easy to obtain Green Cards: defeat and loot Roaming or Military scientists. Also, such keys can be found in seven Monuments.
